Toby Cohen has taught math at Montville Township’s Robert R. Lazar Middle School for 50 years. On March 13, 2025, the Montville Township Chamber of Commerce awarded Cohen the Gold Service Award for 50 years of dedicated service to the students and families of Montville Township.

Former middle school math student, Carl Grau, presented the Gold Service Award to his 7th grade math teacher, Toby Cohen. Cohen has taught math in the Robert R. Lazar Middle School for more than 50 years.

Middle school math teacher Toby Cohen with her math teacher Charles “Charlie” Grau. Grau taught Cohen in West Orange NJ. Grau has lived in Montville Township for nearly 60 years. He served on the Board of Education for 30 of those years. Cohen has taught at Montville Township’s Robert R. Lazar Middle School for 50 years. In addition to being a former student of Grau’s, Cohen taught Grau’s son, Carl, 7th grade math.

On March 13, 2025, awards were presented to: a wide variety of individuals, organizations and businesses: Gold Service: Toby Cohen, Silver Service: Sandy Purnell, Citizen of the Year: Toni Smith, President's Award: Al Paganelli, Business of the Year: Sea Breeze, Good Neighbor: Cafe Club, Organization of the Year: Gracie's Army, Public Safety: Chief Andrew Caggiano & Detective Sean Regan, and Public Service: Kelly Kehoe.
