MTHS - The MTHS community is proud to announce that at the New Jersey Governor's Awards in Arts Education held on January 10, Scott Baird was named the 2026 Outstanding Teacher of Theatre by the Speech and Theatre Association of New Jersey.

The New Jersey Governor's Award in Arts Education honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional talent, creativity, and commitment to the arts. Mr. Baird has shown remarkable dedication through his work over the past thirteen years at MTHS where he has served as the director/producer of the Fall Play and Spring Musical as well as many other theatrical events during the school year. With a focus on building a program that celebrates the arts and nurtures growth amongst the students, Scott has had many successful productions over the years and has also made the theatre program at the high school one of the strongest in Morris County.

This award not only acknowledges his artistic achievements, but also emphasizes the vital role that arts education plays in fostering creativity and innovation among young people.

"To enter the doors of MTHS everyday after school to watch these students grow as performers and people has been the honor of my career. They have helped shape me into the person and leader I am today. They allow me to show up as my authentic self and cultivate a space where we can create something where there was nothing. They continue to challenge me to be better. I am eternally grateful to the MTHS Administration and the MTPS Administration for allowing me to continue over these past 13 years to inspire students the way I was inspired by my high school theatre teacher and, in turn, be inspired by them."

The NJ Governor's Award in Arts Education is a testament to Scott's hard work and passion for the arts. He has plans to continue his artistic journey by engaging students in challenging and inspiring material and bringing his love of the arts to the Montville community.

Congratulations!
