Dear Parents/Guardians:
Montville Township High School will host an in-person Parent/Teen safe driving course titled “Share The Keys” at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25 in the MTHS Auditorium. Sponsored by NJM Insurance Company and in partnership with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC), the research-based course is specifically designed to educate teens and their parents/guardians about New Jersey’s Graduated Driver (GDL) laws and emphasizes the importance of parental involvement as teens learn to drive.
Students and parents in all grades are encouraged to attend this course. It is mandatory for all students and a parent/guardian to attend one “Share The Keys” course during your high school career in order to be eligible for on-campus parking during your senior year. To accommodate this requirement and present families with multiple opportunities to attend, we scheduled multiple courses throughout the 2025-2026 school year. Tentatively, those additional dates are scheduled for November 19, February 2, and April 20.
Below is a more detailed explanation in order to clarify participation in this new program:
Current grade 9-12 students and a parent/guardian must attend one course [prior to senior year] in order to be eligible for on-campus parking during senior year.
All rising senior students (Class of 2026) and a parent/guardian are encouraged to attend the August 25 course if you did not attend a past course. Failure to attend will impact eligibility for on-campus parking during senior year.
If a family has more than one child in the school, one parent/guardian may attend a course with multiple high school age children to satisfy the requirement.
We are excited to continue implementing this program as we feel it will contribute to the safety of our teenage drivers. Because we will record attendance at the course, students need to bring a student ID with them and parents/guardians need to bring their license.
