The Chinese Honor Society of Montville Township High School invites the community to celebrate the Lunar New Year at their “Chinese New Year Festival” on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
This interactive evening will feature performances by MTHS Chinese Honor Society students. The Year of the Dragon will be celebrated with a Dragon dance, as well as a ribbon dance, a fan dance, singing, instrumental performances, a Hanfu demonstration, and more.
“Those who attend will learn about Chinese culture,” said MTHS Chinese Honor Society Advisor and Mandarin teacher Zishan (Annie) Huang. “This is a fun event for the entire family.”
In addition to outstanding performances, those who attend the MTHS Chinese Honor Society’s “Chinese New Year Festival” will also have the opportunity to learn about Chinese culture through activity stations. Chopstick games, ping pong, spinning handkerchiefs, shuttlecock games, origami, dragon ribbon lessons, Rubik’s Cube game strategies, the pitch-pot game, and a Hanfu demonstration are among the interactive activities that attendees will enjoy.
The Hanfu demonstration will be similar to a fashion show. During the demonstration, students will highlight traditional styles of clothing worn by the Han Chinese.
Huang noted that the MTHS Chinese Honor Society students have worked very hard on the cultural presentations, and are excited to share the performances and activities with families and friends from the Montville Township community and beyond.
“Everyone should come and enjoy the games and performances,” Huang encouraged.
MTHS is one of the seven schools in the Montville Township Public Schools District.
The MTHS Chinese Honor Society will celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the “Chinese New Year Festival” from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in the Montville Township High School cafeteria. Admission is $5.00. The evening includes performances, snacks and activities. MTHS is located at 100 Horseneck Road in Montville Township, New Jersey.
