Twenty-one new faculty and staff members began the three-day Montville Township Public Schools [MTPS] New Teacher Orientation on Monday, August 28, 2023.

The new MTPS educators will support students at a variety of locations throughout the district. Cedar Hill Elementary School will welcome two new teachers, Hilldale and William Mason Elementary Schools will share two teachers and Mason will also have a new full-time teacher. Valley View Elementary School and Robert R. Lazar Middle School will each receive three new faculty members, and MTHS will receive eight. Additionally, the district, and Information Technology Services [ITS] will each welcome one new staff member.

All who attended the first day of orientation were welcomed by Dr. David Modrak, President of the Montville Township Board of Education, and Dr. Thomas Gorman, Superintendent of the Montville Township Public Schools.

“I know you have done your homework and you know that this is a good district,” Modrak noted. “We value our teachers. We support our teachers. And it shows. Our students are doing great. They do great in academics, in the arts, in athletics, and in activities. The Board of Education supports the administration, and the administration supports you. Thank you for being here and have a great year.”

New faculty and staff for the district includes: Jason Barsanti, Claire Brassel, Cameron Carrazza, Gloria Catania, Christopher Conroy, Jordan DeYoung, Melissa Fletcher, Brandon Frumolt, Cassady Grablauskas, Frederick McMahon, Victoria Parisen, Lydia Parker, Alexa Robertiello, Hannah Salemi, Rebecca Scanlon, Samantha Shalongo, Angelo Soto, Stephanie Tierney, Kaytlin Tucker, Gabriela Vintimilla, and Andrew Yost.

Of the twenty-one faculty members who are entering the district for the 2023-2024 school year, four are music teachers, three teach English, five are learning support specialists, two are counselors, two are World Language specialists, one is math, one is science, one is elementary, one is applied arts, and one will support students through the ITS department.

“Use your enthusiasm,” Gorman said, as he encouraged the new faculty to engage with students through their own interests. “We want you to be inventive. You are teaching them about life through your subject matter. No matter what your subject matter, bring your interests and your enthusiasm into the classroom. That is what helps students prepare for life.”

New Teacher Orientation began on August 28. During the three-day training the new teachers are scheduled to receive Technology Training in Schoology, and Genesis; Technology Orientation Training; Danielson Training in Domains I, II, III, and IV; Counseling and HIB Training; Special Services Training; Business Office Orientation Training; and Grade Level/Department Trainings. The majority of programs will be offered in the Montville Township High School [MTHS] Media Center, but the faculty will also have an opportunity to report to their assigned schools to prepare their classrooms.

Montville Township Education Association [MTEA] President Scott Riotto, who is also a social studies teacher at MTHS, welcomed the new faculty before their lunch break on August 28. The lunch was provided by MTEA.
