All Montville Township Adults Are Asked to Attend a Screening of ANGST –- A Documentary Aimed at Raising Awareness About Anxiety
The March 12 Viewing and Discussion Will Be Facilitated by Minding Your Mind and is an Important Community Event for All Parents and Guardians
ANGST, a documentary aimed at raising awareness about anxiety, will be shown on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Montville Township High School. All adults in the community, especially parents and guardians, are asked to attend the screening at 7:00 PM on March 12. This event is important for all parents and guardians, regardless of the age of their children.
“Over the past 18 months, the district has seen a marked increase in the number of students expressing anxiety, depression, and indicating their intent to harm themselves” Superintendent Dr. René Rovtar wrote in the February newsletter from Montville Township Public Schools. “We want to do everything we can to make students feel comfortable in seeking help when they find themselves in this situation.”
Montville Township Public Schools and the Montville Township Drug Awareness Council (DAC) have teamed up to host this public screening. The group Minding Your Mind will facilitate discussion following the screening. This event is a Montville Township Stigma Free Community initiative.
An IndiFlix Film, the ANGST documentary was produced and is distributed to encourage open dialogue about anxiety, and to provide tools, resources and hope.
“ANGST explores anxiety, its causes, effects and what people can do about it,” Rovtar added. “The goal of the film is to generate conversation and to raise awareness about anxiety and encourage students to reach out for help.”
The film features candid interviews with children and young adults (including Olympic Champion Michael Phelps) who suffer or have suffered from anxiety and what they've learned about it. It includes discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects as well as help, resources and tools.
A mental health advocate, Olympian Michael Phelps has said about this documentary: "I welcomed the opportunity to be a part of ‘ANGST’ . . . to help people understand the impact anxiety has on our mental state and encourage people, especially kids, to ask for help."
In addition to the public screening of ANGST on March 12, all students at Robert R. Lazar Middle School and MTHS will view the documentary. The district will also have an early dismissal on March 12 to provide a professional development opportunity for all faculty, staff and administrators to view ANGST. Minding Your Mind will provide follow-up discussion for staff and students as well.
A FREE public screening of ANGST -- the documentary aimed at raising awareness about anxiety -- will be available to the Montville Township community at large on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Montville Township High School, 100 Horseneck Road, Montville, NJ.
