Tubby The Tuba Concert and opportunity for 4-9 year-olds to play and learn more about the intruments of band and orchestra

FREE Classic Concert of "Tubby the Tuba" Followed by an Opportunity for 4 to 9 Year-Olds  to Interact With and Play the Instruments of the Band and Orchestra.

The classic, "Tubby the Tuba" will be performed in a FREE concert for children 4 to 9 years-old on Saturday, January 26, 2019. Organized by Montville Township High School student musicians and Orchestra and Band Directors Andrew Havington and Daniel Pasquale, the FREE performance will launch the "Children's Concert and Instrument Meet and Greet" event.

Following the performance of "Tubby," children will be invited to touch, play and learn more about each instrument.

"This is an exciting and educational afternoon for children of all ages," said Supervisor of the Fine and Performing Arts, Edward Fleischman." This event generates high energy and genuine enthusiasm for music. Also, the MTHS students really enjoy welcoming their elementary friends."

A classic musical story, "Tubby the Tuba" was written in 1946 by composer George Kleinsinger with a story by Paul Tripp.

"It serves as a wonderful introduction to the orchestra, and has become a well-loved children's classic," notes New York City's The Broadway Bach Ensemble's website.

Tubby is a little tuba who wants to play melodies like all of the other instruments of the orchestra. Because of his low pitch, Tubby mostly plays only "oompah-oompah." By exploring his abilities, and researching opportunities with bull frogs and others, Tubby learns how to play a wonderful new melody. In the end, the entire orchestra is excited about Tubby's melody. The instruments join together in harmony to create a rousing new finale.

"'Tubby the Tuba' is not only a wonderful introduction to musical instruments," Superintendent Dr. René Rovtar said, "It is also a marvelous story illustrating kindness and self-esteem."

The FREE "Children's Concert and Instrument Meet and Greet" event, featuring a performance of the classic "Tubby the Tuba" will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at NOON. The interactive musical event will be held in the Montville Township High School Dr. Robert O. Stafford Auditorium, 100 Horseneck Road, Montville, NJ.
