NOTE COLD WEATHER DELAY - 3rd Annual OneMontville MLK Day of Respect & Community Service Starting Location Moved to 70 River Road

Please NOTE: Event begins at 11:00 AM at 70 River Road on Monday, January 21, 2019. Most locations open from 11AM-2PM. Boonton Mosque is open only from 1:45PM-3PM. Each location will have FREE FOOD, culture and history presentations and a community service project. Please BRING Canned Goods for the Montville Township Kiwanis Food Pantry and Toothbrushes and Toothpaste for Syrian refugees.

OneMontville will hold the 3rd Annual MLK Day of Respect and Community Service on Monday, January 21, 2019. Due to the extreme cold weather predicted for January 21, the event will now begin at 11:00 AM at 70 River Road, Montville, NJ. NOTE: The walking activity, originally scheduled to begin earlier at 86 River Road, will NOT be held. INSTEAD, participants will begin the day's events for #AcceptanceRespectKindness indoors at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 70 River Road. Once there, food, activities and presentations will take place until 11:45. From there people will make there way to a variety of locations throughout the township to explore the community's history and culture. At each stop community service projects and free food will be available.

Admission is FREE but participants are asked to bring nonperishable food for the Montville Township Kiwanis Food Pantry, and toothbrushes and toothpaste for Syrian refugees. Items will be collected at different stops throughout the day. Participants are also encouraged to bring friends and family.

OneMontville sweatshirts and headbands will be available for sale.

“Last year more than 150 people of all ages attended the OneMontville MLK Day of Respect and Community Service,” said OneMontville Board President Shari Schwartz. “The MLK Day of Respect and Community Service is a dynamic opportunity to unite all of Montville Township in service, and to bring the community together for a chance to learn about and celebrate our differences and similarities. Montville Township is an exciting, diverse and welcoming community.”

Nonperishable food for the Montville Kiwanis Food Pantry will be collected at the first stop: Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. Toothbrushes will be collected at the Islamic Center in Boonton, New Jersey.

At Montville Holy Spirit Lutheran Church participants will take part in a variety of local and international service projects to #ShareKindess with those in need. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the Montville Reformed Church, Montville Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Montville United Methodist Church, Sandol Presbyterian Church of Montville and Montville Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Several volunteer opportunities will be stationed at there and FREE food will be available from 11:00 – 11:45 AM.

Following the opening activities at 70 River Road, participants are then invited to help with projects and learn more about other congregations throughout the afternoon. Activities, tours and FREE food will be available from: 12:00-12:30 PM at St. Pius X at 24 Changebridge Road; 12:45–1:15 PM at Pine Brook Jewish Center at 174 Changebridge Road (Hearts of Hope will be the service project at this location) ; and 1:45-3:00 PM at Jam-e-Masjid Islamic Center at 110 Harrison Street in Boonton, NJ (NOTE: Toothbrushes and tooth paste will be collected at Jam-e-Masjid Islamic Center at 110 Harrison Street, Boonton, NJ from 1:45-3:00 PM).

“It is an important day of learning about the diverse cultures that make up the Montville Township community and it is an exciting opportunity to #ShareKindness with others,” Schwartz explained.

The 3rd Annual OneMontville Martin Luther King Day of Respect and Community Service will take place on Monday, January 21, 2019. The FREE event will begin at 11:00 AM at 70 River Road. Activities will be held throughout the community from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with some buildings being open only from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, others from 1:45 to 3:00 PM. The itinerary can be found at Info is also available on the OneMontville Facebook Page.
