July 31, 2020
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff Members and Students:
Today I am able to share with you the draft Montville Township Public Schools Reopening Plan September 2020. A link to the plan is available on the district website at https://www.montvilletwpps.nj.schools.bz/Content2/1266. The members of the Reopening Committee have spent considerable time preparing the information contained in the plan.
The Board of Education has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday, August 4th. This will be a virtual meeting with the public portion of the meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. Meetings can be viewed live at www.montville.net/boemeetinglive. At the meeting, I will provide an overview of the plan and there will be an opportunity for members of the public to make comments or ask questions about the plan. Following the discussion, the Board of Education is expected to adopt a plan in order to be compliant with the guidance that a plan must be in place and provided to parents at least thirty days prior to the first day of school.
On July 24, 2020, New Jersey school districts were provided guidance from the New Jersey Department of Education regarding a “full-time remote” option which parents may select if they prefer not to have their child attend school in person at this time. The specifics of this option are outlined in the plan. Any students who are unable to wear face coverings due to medical reasons are strongly encouraged to select the full-time remote option for their own personal health and safety. It is important to note that any changes between in-person or full-time remote learning can only happen at the start of a marking period. Parents will have one week to make their selection for September. This selection must be made in the Genesis Parent Portal between August 5 and August 12, 2020 at midnight. Any student without a parental selection in the Genesis Parent Portal will be scheduled as an in-person student.
Detailed information regarding class assignments and specific school procedures will be shared by the principals later in August.
We continue to work very hard to prepare our schools for the return of students and staff in September. We are all committed to creating a safe way for our students and staff to return to their schools. We must recognize, as I have stated before, that the pandemic situation is a fluid one with changes occurring frequently. It is possible that any changes or directives issued by the Governor or the New Jersey Department of Education may have an impact on our plan and its parameters. For that reason, I urge you to check email frequently to monitor for any updates from the district.
