When will devices be replaced?
The district purchases new devices each year and distributes them to grades 1, 5, and 9.
When will they be distributed?
Student keep their devices over the summer, so most students have a device already.
When possible, new devices are made available for pickup at the end of the summer. When this is possible, a notification is sent to parents with more information.

Will students take them home?
Students in Kindergarten will have their device stored in a cart in their classroom.
Students in grades 1-12 will take the device and its charger home.
Can my child use his or her own laptop instead?
Yes, students may use their own devices. In order to participate in many class activities they will also need school issued network credentials.

The district will not provide technical or financial support for hardware issues or damage to personal devices.
What if my child forgets their device or forgets to charge it?
Students are expected to bring their fully charged device to school every single day.
If a student does not bring the device, the teacher may direct the student to do an alternate assignment.
What if the device battery dies during school hours?
If students charge the device fully before school each day, as they are expected to do, the battery will last throughout the entire day.
The use of technology in the classroom will be determined by the instructor, not the student.

What are some examples of when different damage costs will be charged?
A student reports that the trackpad on their device has stopped working. Upon investigation IT Services determined that it is a hardware issue with the device through no fault of the student. The device will be repaired under warranty for free. This repair will not count as the yearly free repair.
A student reports that they tripped while carrying their device and dropped it on the floor, shattering the screen. This would be non-malicious damage.
If this is the first repair of the school year, the device will be repaired at no charge.
Otherwise, then no matter how damaged the device is from the fall, a device repair fee will be charged.
If a student brings a device in for repair that has 10 keys removed from the keyboard, this would likely be considered malicious damage. There is no reason for a student to remove keys from their device. There would be a malicious damage fee.
If for any reason a student cannot return a device, not even in pieces, then the device is considered lost or stolen and the parent will be charged the device replacement fee.
Will cases be provided for the device?
Cases or sleeves will not be provided by the district, but students are welcome to use one if they would like to.
