Welcome to William Mason "Bright Futures Begin Here"
Welcome to William Mason Elementary School!
This resource has been created to help make the start of your new school year as smooth and stress-free as possible for you.
Our building is one of five elementary facilities that service Montville Township. We currently house a student population of just under 300 children, K-5, and approximately 60 faculty and support personnel.
Our educational belief embraces the notion that all children can learn and have that right. Here at Mason, we continue to work hard in creating and maintaining an educational environment that is both meaningful and exciting and that addresses the individual and collective needs of all of our students.

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
The first day of school is an important day for both parents and children. Book bags are packed and there are jitters of excitement, as well as jitters of nerves. Please rest assured that the staff is prepared to spot children who need assistance and will make sure all of the students feel comfortable. Our staff greets all students outside where you can find their teacher holding their classroom sign, welcoming them.
Some parents choose to drive their children to school on the first day. Please note that the school parking lot will be filled with cars from eager parents and students on the first day of school and to be mindful of parking on the road. Of course, don’t forget that special first day photo either at the bus stop or outside of the school building!
Dismissal on the first few days does take longer than usual. We take the time to make sure that students are dismissed safely to their bus and the walker/pick up line. We also help the students who attend the MEDLC program. (See the MEDLC portion of this email to find out more about this before school and after school program).
THE HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (HSA)
The HSA is always looking for volunteers, ideas and new faces to become involved in the William Mason community. Many of our activities are hosted by HSA (ex: The Book Fair, The Hot lunch Program, Assemblies). Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend our monthly HSA meetings. If you have any questions or would like to hear more about how you can help, please click on their tab on the William Mason Website or contact Monica Govindani at, Govindani@me.com
Frequently Asked Questions
If my child is late to school, what happens?
It is important to note that if your child is in school after 9:45 a.m., he/she will not receive credit for a full school day, only for a half day. Attendance in the classroom is taken promptly at 8:10 AM. If your child is not in the classroom by 8:10 AM, he/she is considered late and will need to be signed in with the attendance secretary in the main office. This requires a parent or guardian to accompany the child into the building when he/she is late. If your child is not signed, in it is possible that the records will not be changed and an absence will be recorded.
What if my child has an appointment and needs to leave school early?
If your child is leaving school early, please note that if your child leaves school before 1:10 p.m.,
he/she will not get credit for a full school day, only for a half day.
What if there is an early dismissal from school?
If there is an early dismissal from school in order for your child to receive any credit for the
school day, they must be present for at least two (2) academic hours. Anything less than four (4)
academic hours results in a half-day credit. For example, if a parent/guardian picks up their child
before 12:45 p.m., he/she will not receive credit for a full school day, only for a half day.
When there is an emergency closing due to weather, is there a schedule to accommodate the
children and different school hours?
When there is an emergency due to weather, etc. and school needs to close early, the school will
follow a different schedule. The school hours will be 8:10am -12:10pm. If there is an emergency
and there needs to be a delayed opening, the delayed opening school hours will be 10:10am -
2:45pm.
What if my child is absent for a holiday and school is in session?
Please see our State Approved Religious Holiday tab. All of these approved holidays are an
excused absence. If the holiday(s) you and your child celebrate are not on this state approved list,
your child’s absence will be marked as an unexcused absence.
