•                              Welcome

    Mrs. Anne Fisher, M.A.
    Reading Specialist
    Cedar Hill Elementary

Growing up, The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton was my favorite children's book.  Born in Sendai, Japan, I attended thirteen schools around the U.S. graduating from East Anchorage High School.  Just like the Little House, I understood how some things remain constant even as one's surroundings change.

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from a Children's Book,  Anita Silvey (2009), was the inspiration for my introduction.

The Little House Board Book [Book]
When we show students how to "read like writers," we help them craft and structure their own writing.  By sharing our own writing, we demonstrate the writing process in an authentic way.

As the reading specialist at Cedar Hill, it is my responsibility to facilitate a balanced literacy approach.  I meet with teachers to discuss students' literacy progress and needs, select appropriate books and other resources, and help plan instruction.  By modeling lessons and conducting professional workshops, I also assist teachers as they implement various aspects of the language arts curriculum.
