Welcome Back to School
I hope you all had a restful, relaxing summer. I am looking forward to getting back into learning with the wonderful students of Woodmont School.
Our basic skills program continues to focus on the remediation of learning deficits. As you may know, Wilson Fundations is used to teach letter formation, phonics, and fluency in grades kindergarten, first and second. We begin our second year teaching Fundations 3 in third grade and Just Words in fourth and fifth grade. These intensive programs are designed to target decoding and fluency skills in order to strengthen the foundation for comprehension.
We are also implementing iReady, a computer- based, individualized assessment and instructional tool. We are finding that we learn a great deal about student strengths and needs through this program. Utilizing iReady at home on a regular basis will support your school aged child in reading and math.
As we embark on a new school year, please support your child as a math learner by practicing the appropriate math facts for their grade level (k-2 addition and subtraction, grade 3-5 addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) with flash cards and/or games. Automatic knowledge of basic facts is a gift we give children so they can solve problems without struggling with fact recall.
I am looking forward to a great year!
