In order to complete necessary repairs and upgrades, the Montville Township High School track and football field will be fully closed to the public two times during spring and summer 2022. The first closure occurs May 31 through June 10 and the second will be from June 24 through September 2, 2022.
During both closures the area of the MTHS track and football field will be an active construction site. The public is prohibited from using the site during construction.
A new synthetically resurfaced rubberized track will be built during the renovation and repairs process. Additionally, the football field turf will be fully replaced. Both surfaces are highly rated to provide low-impact running surfaces that result in ideal traction and state-of-the-art safety and performance. The renovations will also continue to improve drainage and will provide lower maintenance needs, thus reducing on-going costs in upkeep.
Construction will begin before the end of the 2021-2022 school year, and has been scheduled to accommodate two important community dates:
- The Montville Area Relay for Life event will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.
- MTHS graduation will be held on the field in the stadium on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.
During construction, public use of the track and football field is strictly prohibited.
“When the renovations and repairs to the MTHS track and football field are completed, the students and community will have access to another state-of-the-art athletic facility on the MTHS campus,” said Katine Slunt, Business Administrator for Montville Township Public Schools. “This construction is necessary because both the current track and the current field are in need of repair.”
Due to the intense usage, year-round, of both the MTHS track and football field, the district has tightly scheduled the construction of the renovations and repairs to both the track and the field. Construction is scheduled to be completed in time for the fall 2022-2023 Mustangs’ football season.
Montville Township Public Schools appreciates the cooperation of the entire community as the necessary improvements and upgrades are made to the MTHS track and football field.
