Montville Township Public Schools Welcomes 34 New Teachers for 2019-2020

 

Thirty-four new faculty members joined the Montville Township Public Schools district this morning. The “Class of 2019-2020” met at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019, in the Media Center at Montville Township High School to begin two days of New Staff Orientation and classroom preparation.

“I am extremely proud to welcome you to Montville Township Public Schools,” Superintendent Dr. René Rovtar said. “This district is a great place to work. It is a wonderful district.”

Rovtar noted several of the district’s awards and honors highlighting outstanding academic achievement, athletic achievement, extracurricular achievement and volunteer achievement.

Montville Township Board of Education President Charles Grau and the district’s principals, vice principals and curriculum supervisors for all seven Montville Township Public Schools also attended the event.

“You should be proud,” Rovtar added. “You have been hired following a rigorous interview process. We have selected the absolute best.”

Board of Education President Charles Grau reiterated the district’s excellent reputation.

“Montville Township is truly a wonderful school district,” Grau said.

An active Montville Township resident, Grau told the new members of the faculty that he began his own career in education as a math teacher in 1962. The veteran educator has also served as an administrator in a variety of New Jersey districts. Grau has been a member of the Montville Township Board of Education for 25 years.

“Montville Township Public Schools are excellent,” Grau added, noting the district’s outstanding administrations and leadership. “You have access to a wealth of support in this district. Use that support.”

Following the introductions, the new teachers had an opportunity mingle before having their photo taken and beginning the orientation training.

Training for the 34 new hires began with Technology Orientation and Schoology Training.

Schoology is the district’s new Learning Management System. It is designed to improve student performance, foster personalized learning, and improve collaboration between students, parents and teachers.

The three hour segment was headed by Austin Thomsen, Director of IT Services and Dr. Andrea Wallace, Education Technology Teacher Coach.

Other day-one training topics included: an introduction to the district’s Business Office, by the district’s Business Administrator, Katine Slunt; School Counseling and HIB (Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying) introduction by Leslee Scheckman, Director of Schools Counseling; and a review of the district’s outstanding Special Services resources, presented by Director of Special Services Jennifer DeSaye and Supervisor of Special Services Patricia Stryker.

The teachers also met with Montville Township Education Association President Scott Riotto.

Day two of the New Teacher Orientation will focus exclusively on district objectives, goals and requirements with regard to the Danielson Framework for teaching. Danielson is a method of instruction that is research-based and employs a validated set of components.

New Teachers will also have opportunities to work in their assigned buildings to prepare for the arrival of the district’s 3,539 students on Thursday, September 5, 2019.

Montville Township Public Schools is located in Montville, New Jersey. The Township is comprised of Montville, Towaco and Pine Brook. The district is home to five elementary schools: Cedar Hill, Hilldale, Valley View, William Mason and Woodmont; as well as Robert R. Lazar Middle School and Montville Township High School.

All faculty and staff will return to the district on Tuesday, September 3 at 8AM. They will meet at MTHS for orientation.

Students will start the 2019-2020 academic year on Thursday, September 5. The school day will run from 7:25 a.m. through 2:10 p.m. for MTHS. Lazar will be in session from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Montville Township Public Schools' five elementary schools are in session from 8:10 a.m. through 2:45 p.m.
