Montville Township Board of Education Elects New President and Vice President

BOE Members Michelle Zuckerman and Dr. David Modrak were elected to serve as the 2023 Montville Township BOE Vice President and President.

At the, January 3, 2023, Montville Township Board of Education Reorganization Meeting, BOE Members Michelle Zuckerman and Dr. David Modrak were elected into leadership roles by the Members of the BOE.  Zuckerman and Modrak will serve as the 2023 Montville Township BOE Vice President and President.

At the Montville Township Board of Education Reorganization Meeting on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, Assistant to the Business Administrator Diane Maggiore announced the winners of the November 2022 Montville Township Board of Education election. At the meeting, Maggiore filled-in for BOE Secretary Katine Slunt. Slunt is also the Montville Township Public Schools Business Administrator.

Incumbents Christine Fano and Michael Rappaport were reelected with 4,883 votes and 4,261 votes respectively. New BOE Member John Petrozzino received 4,182 votes.

Fano and Petrozzino each took the oath of office as Fano’s father, Raymond Shenekji, held the Bible on which they each placed their right hands.

Rappaport, who was unable to attend the January 3 meeting, will be sworn in at his earliest convenience at the Montville Township Public Schools District Offices.

Incumbent BOE Member Christine Fano and new BOE Member John Petrozzino were sworn in at the January 3, 2023, Montville Township Board of Education Reorganization Meeting. Incumbent Michael Rappaport, who also won reelection in the November 2022 election, was unable to attend the January 3 meeting. He will be sworn in at his earliest convenience at the Montville Township Public Schools District Offices.

The Montville Township Board of Education is a nine-member governing body. Eight members attended the Reorganization Meeting.

Following the swearing-in of the newly elected BOE Members, the BOE then elected the 2023 leadership. Board of Education Member Dr. David Modrak was nominated by his peers for the position of President. Modrak has served on the BOE for 8 years. He accepted the nomination and ran unopposed. Following the vote, Modrak accepted the position of President. He then called for nominations for Vice President. BOE Member Michelle Zuckerman was nominated, and also ran unopposed. Following the vote she too accepted her new role as Vice President of the Montville Township Board of Education.

The BOE Members then read into the record 10 points, items A. through J., of the Code of Ethics and adopted the resolution.

The BOE also approved the adoption of Robert’s Rules, all previously written By-laws, Policy and Regulations, and the proposed BOE Meeting Schedule through January 2, 2024.

Internal and external appointments for services and procedures were also approved as outlined in the January 3, 2023, agenda.

The assignment of committees for BOE Members was tabled until the next meeting, to allow time for the members to apply for positions on the committees. The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the Montville Township Municipal Building, 195 Changebridge Road in Montville, New Jersey.
