Valley View Elementary School kindergarteners made an educational bus safety video, entitled “Valley View Buckle Up,” for the 2022-2023 academic year.

“This year, coming back after two and a half years of very little experience with buses, we thought it was time to educate our entire school about bus safety,” said Valley View Principal Dr. Patricia Kennedy.

Kennedy, School Counselor Keith Spector, and three members of the Valley View Kindergarten class, shared the video they made with the Montville Township Board of Education on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. The BOE meeting was held in the Media Center at the Montville Township High School.

“The video that you are going to see we made, to remind all children who ride the bus, that being safe is everybody’s job,” said Ditya Nigam, a kindergarten student in Jessica Becker’s class.

“Bus safety starts before you get on the bus,” added Nigam’s classmate, Shaan Mehta.

Mehta explained that riders should stand back from the road and bus stop to provide a safe distance between the rider and the bus.

Mehta concluded his portion of the presentation by reminding everyone that, “All bus riders need to practice being safe and respectful to the driver, as well as to the other riders.”

“We hope that you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed making it,” said Justin Epstein, a member of teacher Kylie Balchan's class.

Epstein also thanked the O’Dowd Bus Company, for providing the bus; Physical Education Teacher Len Saunders for filming and editing the video; and Spector for producing the video.

Epstein also gave a big thank you, “to Dr. Kennedy for giving the green light to go ahead and make this video.”

Members of the public and the Montville Board of Education members then watched the “Valley View Buckle Up” video. The Valley View informational bus safety video can be viewed on the Valley View Elementary School YouTube Channel.
