DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

Road Closures and Detours

March 23, through April 28 - Day & Night: Construction work on Route 202 & Changebridge Road

This Message is from MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP:

As part of its obligation under federal law to maintain the safety and reliability of its facilities, Enbridge is required by U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration Regulations (Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 192 Department of Transportation Regulations for “Transportation of Natural and other Gas by Pipeline”) to routinely monitor its pipelines for segments which require attention and address them in a timely fashion to protect the public and to ensure Algonquin’s compliance with federal pipeline safety regulations.

Enbridge has identified three areas of pipeline in Montville Township that require attention and has been working on a plan to address same. The project will require extensive construction work on Route 202 and Changebridge Road with work expected to occur at night on Route 202 and round the clock on Changebridge Road. Enbridge anticipates beginning on March 23, 2023 and continuing through April 28, 2023.  There will be road closures and detours through construction zones during this time but at least one lane of travel is expected to be open through the construction zones. Temporary construction signage will be posted in advance of the start date and traffic safety officers will be in place as necessary.

While this will certainly have an impact on traffic in the community, the work is absolutely necessary, and working around the clock will allow the project to be completed in a more timely fashion. We are and will be in close communication with Enbridge, Morris County and the Contractor to help make this project go as smoothly as possible while keeping the public informed with any information or changes that are necessary during the construction process. We understand the frustration that comes along with road closures and detours but request that motorists seek alternate routes when available and allow for extra travel time.

Enbridge is providing a 24-hour phone number for any questions or concerns during construction; 1 (888) 217-9110.
