Principal's Message

Woodmont Elementary School, located in the Pine Brook section of Montville Township, enrolls approximately 310 students in grades K-5. We are a diverse, dedicated educational community working toward our vision of a school comprised of learners who are respectful, responsible and compassionate towards others.  We develop citizens who will meet the needs of the perpetually changing global society. We accomplish this through creating, promoting and fostering lasting relationships with dedicated parents and staff.

Our mission is for students, parents and staff to collaborate on methods that promote success for every child and a passion for learning.  We recognize that each child is unique.  We challenge our students to achieve their full potential by creating learning environments that allow students to actively participate in their educational journey.  These experiences prepare our students to be productive members of their community.

The Woodmont faculty mentors our children for the challenges of the 21st Century. We prepare them for the rigors of the Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Model Curriculum. We plan lessons which address all modalities.  We incorporate technology to enhance the curriculum and challenge all learners. The data from our assessments drive instruction and provide faculty with information to best meet the needs of the children under their supervision.  Teachers differentiate instruction and provide each student with what they require to succeed.

Primary teachers base instruction on thematic and integrated units of study. The successful utilization of cooperative learning strategies, a literature based reading program, flexible math grouping across each grade level, and learning centers provide an exciting educational environment. Teachers construct lessons that promote problem-solving skills, writing across the content areas, and learning how to apply the scientific method when conducting experiments. Students integrate technology to improve research skills and learning. Students participate in video streaming, in web quests, the use of IPADs and chrome books, and faculty employs SMART Boards as part of daily practice.

Woodmont sponsors many extracurricular programs to further enrich our curriculum.  Students may participate in Student Council, Poetry Club, Math 24 Club, Art Club, Model Building Club, Safety Patrol, a Mentoring Program, Classroom Helpers, Geography Club and a Buddy Reading program between grade levels. The Fine Arts program reflects opportunities for choral and instrumental performances and exhibitions of student artwork both in the school and in the community.

Our reliable faculty gives back to the community.  Many of our members participate in the “Cats and Cubs” mentor program.  This program promotes the belief that every child should feel connected to their school and provides children with a caring adult who takes an interest in them beyond their academic lives.  Faculty recently initiated the district’s ALS ice bucket challenge; an effort which resulted so far in over $4000 being raised for ALS research!  Our faculty employs its “Paws the Wildcat” You Tube channel as an avenue to inform and to promote the accomplishments of our school community.

Woodmont's Parent-Teacher Association continues to be a driving force within the school. Parent volunteers fundraise to support cultural arts programs, assist in the library, manage a hot lunch program three days a week, chaperone field trips, provide school-wide enrichment programs, organize class celebrations, assist teachers with special curriculum projects, and help seasonally decorate our school grounds, thereby inspiring school spirit and pride in our school. The Woodmont PTA, through its fundraising efforts, continues to provide amenities that enhance the learning environment.

Our guidance department works closely with students to promote character education.     Students reflect daily on character education concepts through the “Principal’s Principles” and are rewarded for modeling outstanding behavior through our Student of the Month award.  We adhere to a school wide behavior program “Paws Promises”; four global rules applicable to our school lives whether we are in kindergarten or grade five.  Last year, Woodmont students participated in Pennies for Patients, sponsored the training of a puppy through the Seeing Eye program, collected   Thanksgiving food basket donations, and Red Ribbon Week activities.

We dedicate ourselves and our efforts to reflect our school slogan “Woodmont Elementary School- your journey to success begins here.”
