Scientific literacy assumes an increasingly important role in the context of globalization. The rapid paceof technological advances, access to an unprecedented wealth of information, and the pervasive impact of science and technology on day-to-day living require a depth of understanding that can be enhanced through quality science education. In the 21st century, science education focuses on the practices of science that lead to a greater understanding of the growing body of scientific knowledge that is required of citizens in an ever-changing world (http://www.state.nj.us/education/cccs/standards/5/intro.pdf).
All course curricula in science are aligned to the NJ Student Learning Standards in Science and Technology, as well as the Common Core State Standards for Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects.
