College Application Process

The college search and application process formally begins in the winter of student’s junior year. However, the Office of School Counseling works with freshman and sophomore students to help identify their strengths, interests, and potential career paths. Sophomores will be invited to attend the November college fair hosted at MTHS in an effort to expose students to the college search process early.

 

The number one thing you can do to help your chances of being admitted to a college or university is to get the best grades you can in the classes you are taking. Your final transcript is the most important part of your college application and students begin working on that the first day of their freshman year.

 

In the winter of student’s junior year, parents are invited to what’s called a Junior Conference. During the Junior Conference, your school counselor will go over how colleges and universities evaluate an application, give you some suggestions for things you should consider doing, and help you create a plan to apply to college.

 

Naviance is the college search and research software that all MTHS students and their parents have access to. The office of school counseling encourages you to start utilizing the software as early as your freshman year. Besides researching colleges and universities, students can take interest inventories, research career paths, and even build their own résumé.
