How Do I Know If My Child Needs to See a Therapist?

Tips and Resources for Parents and Guardians

The decision to seek professional counseling support for your child can be a difficult one. Student Assistance Counselors, School Counselors, and Case Managers are here to help parents and guardians do the following:

  • Assist in determining if counseling might be beneficial for their child

  • Explain how counseling outside of the school setting works and what it looks like

  • Make referrals for licensed therapists and/or mental health agencies in our area

In addition, please see below for some resources aimed at helping parents navigate the decision to seek counseling for their child, as well as the formation of an effective partnership with your child’s therapist.
