February is a very busy month for the Kindergarten at Valley View.  We will be focusing on Black History, Dental Health, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Groundhog Day, President's Day, and the 100th day.  The children will continue to rotate daily through centers along with guided reading, writing workshop, and math.  In math we will begin measurement, telling time, and money.

December 2009

In December the children will be learning about a variety of customs that are honored around the world to celebrate different holidays.  Some of the customs that they will learn about are filling wooden shoes with goodies in Holland, decorating a tree with glass ornaments from Germany, lighting a menorah from Israel, and so much more.  We will appreciate all of the wonderful traditions that are customs for many countries around the world.  The excitement of the holidays always brings lots of extra laughter and joy to the classroom!  We will round out the month with our class holiday party.  We wish everyone a happy and HEALTHY holiday season!  See you in 2010!

November 2009

During the month of November the children in kindergarten have been learning about their families and the significance of celebrating Thanksgiving with families.  They have been learning about the history of the first Thanksgiving feast that was held for three days.  They have learned about the Pilgrims and their way of life and how they started out in America.  The different tribes of the Native Americans and their customs were discussed as well.  The children have made pilgrim hats and Native American headdresses to wear for our very own classroom feasts!  They also made turkeys during the month to honor our main course at Thanksgiving!  Happy Thanksgiving to all!
