The "WebQuest" WebQuest

Introduction

A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation.  The objective of this activity is to enable you to better understand the background and basics of a WebQuest.  Additionally, you will create and construct a basic WebQuest Template for use in your classroom.

The Task

Work independently and with your colleagues to access and utilize the Informational Sources listed below to answer the cited Questions, draw conclusions and implement new practices into your classroom.                     You will:

·        View the WebQuest video.

·        Answer the Questions by visiting and exploring the listed guided research sites.

·        Utilize your findings to enhance and differentiate instruction in your classroom.

Questions

·        Where was the first WebQuest developed and who can be credited?

·        What are the basic components of any WebQuest?

·        What does an excellent example of a WebQuest look like?

·        What would my WebQuest Template look like, for use in my classroom?

·        When should I use a WebQuest format for learners?

·        What new practices will occur in my classroom as a result of utilizing WebQuests?

·        What new technology skills have I acquired as a result of utilizing WebQuests?

The Process
Utilize information from the video and guided research sites provided to educate yourself, draw conclusions and to:

·        Answer the questions above.

·        Locate an existing WebQuest which you feel is excellent.

·        Create a Webquest Template from a Microsoft Word Document.

·        Note the new technology practices you have learned along the way.

Some Guidance
Use your mind’s eye to picture what a WebQuest format would look like when assigned to your students.  While every WebQuest is different in content and scope, the format may be better if consistent from WebQuest to WebQuest.  To this end, the thoughtful construction of a WebQuest Template may save you time in preparation, better enable you to utilize future WebQuests and help your students learn at the same time.

Be prepared to share your thoughts and insights about WebQuests in general, how you feel this would benefit your classes and when you might use this type of approach.

Conclusion
You will share your conclusions with members of the Third Year Teachers Group. The exemplary WebQuest sample, your WebQuest, your WebQuest template and new technology practices will be shared with an presented to the Third Year Teachers Group as well.
