Student Databases:

The district has provided our middle-school students with access to databases, which will greatly aid in the quality of their research. These sites can be accessed both in school and, remotely, at home. Please see Mrs. Metz for passwords.

New Jersey provides 24/7 access to live librarian assistance. During daytime hours you can phone your local or state librarian. However, from 9 pm till 9 am, you can connect, by your browser, sign-in with little information and no fee, and begin to live-chat with a reference librarian, by typing on the screen. The biggest advantage to using QandANJ.org is that due to copyright laws, popular search engines cannot search subscription-based sites, but public libraries subscribe to powerful databases and are most happy to share that information with students and parents alike.

 Students' search tools:

CLUSTY is a search site powered by Vivismo that clusters and organizes similar results and groups them together. For example, a search for "pearl" organizes the top 250-500 results into subject folders such as Jewelry, Pearl Harbor, Pearl Jam, Steinbeck novels and Daniel Pearl.

What do you get if you cross a search engine with an encyclopedia? Factbites is a new way to search the Web, which avoids spewing out meaningless site names and mangled phrases. Factbites offers you real, meaningful sentences that are right on topic.
