Academic Info
   
Academic Info's mission is to "improve access to online educational resources by developing an easy to use subject directory covering each academic discipline." The focus of the site is on academic materials, "with its intended audience at the upper high school level or above." You can browse by subject headings, search by keywords, or choose a subject gateway.  Choosing the "Education" subject gateway will lead you to a wealth of information on education topics.

AskERIC (Educational Resources Information Center)
    AskERIC, the first registered education site on the web is an "Internet-based service providing education information to teachers, librarians, counselors, administrators, and parents...throughout the world." AskERIC encompasses the resources of the entire ERIC system and beyond, using using the subject expertise of the 16ERIC Clearinghouses (and adjunct clearinghouses) to respond to education requests and has served millions of educators, parents, and students from around the globe over the past ten years.  Also included are the ERIC Database, the world's largest source of information on education research and practice, as well as a Q&A service, Lesson Plan collection, and much more.

Blue Web'n
  
Blue Web'n is a "searchable database of over 1800 outstanding Internet learning sites categorized by subject area, audience, and type (Lessons, activities, projects, resources, references & tools)." The database contains only the "most useful sites - especially online activities targeted at learners." Users can browse the Content Table or Subject Area guides, or conduct a Refined Search by Grade Level.

EdSelect
  
EdSelect is a superb collection of sites chosen for classroom use by teachers in Ontario. Pat Elliot, a teacher-librarian with Simcoe County District School Board, has selected these sites.  Curriculum Areas (Grades 1-8) are highly recommended.

Education Index
  
This "annotated guide to the best education-related sites on the Web...provides learners and educators with access to the best educational Web sites in a variety of subjects and life stages (resources for preschoolers, college students, continuing education, and careers, to name a few)." Instead of just providing links, the editors review the recommended sites and summarize content on each site.

Education World
  
This "Educator's best Friend" site boasts a searchable database of over 500,000 sites.  It allows users to browse sites under: lesson planning, curriculum now, technology in the classroom, school issues, administrator's desk, and more. You will find their topic guide and advanced search interface most useful. Both simplify the search for specific information on class lessons without overwhelming the user.

Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM)
  
The GEM site provides educators with quick and easy access to thousands of educational resources found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites. Users can browse sites by subject or keyword, or by desired grade or educational level. GEM is a one-stop educational resource to Internet lesson plans, curriculum units, and activities pertaining to all K-12 subjects.

Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators
  
Updated daily, this guide includes the best sites for teaching and learning, and it has a great annotated Subject Access directory. There are also sections on Search Engines and other search tools, as well as general Internet information.  The Additional Information section holds Kathy's training slide shows, material on evaluating Web pages, a monthly new sites list, and much, much, more.  This sites is designed for teachers to enhance curriculum and professional development.

Kid Info (Student Index)
   
This directory provides students with links to homework help resources organized into twelve subject areas: American history, art, computers, current events and newspapers, foreign languages, geography and social studies, health, English language skills, mathematics, music, sciences, and world history. Reference resources, such as almanacs, atlases, career information, encyclopedias, library, and ask-an-expert sites, and study skills are also included, in addition to search engines, and fun sites for kids.

Teachers Helping Teachers
  
For beginning teachers, there are helpful ideas and tips in links, such as classroom management, lessons, language arts, math, science, social studies, and special education. Experienced teachers are encouraged to supply their expertise to newer teachers, giving rise to the site's name.  Check out the Topic of the Week and This Week's Stress Reduction Moment.  These alone merit frequent visits.

Highly Rated Directories/Portals for Excellent Education Sites

More than a directory, this portal neatly organizes thousands of topics, with especially good information and links to "adult/Continuing Education," "College/University," "Primary/Secondary Education," and more under their "Education" section.  Bookmark these and check every week for special topics.

InfoMine
  
This "Scholarly Internet Resource Collections from the University of California-Riverside" includes some 105,000+ sites, grouped into 12 annotated, indexed categories for easy retrieval on this site.  Two of these categories are "Instructional Resources: K-12" and "Instructional Resources: University."

Internet Public Library
  
IPL is a great starting place to find quality information on the Internet. Click on the "Education" section and you can search under subcategories, such as "Early Childhood and Pre-school," "K-12," "Alternative," "Special," and more.They also have links to "Associations" and "Serials" in this area, as well as links to specific educational resources.  Check out their "TeenSpace" and "KidSpace" special features sections, too.

Librarians' Index to the Internet
  
This "searchable, annotated subject directory of more than 12,000 Internet resources selected and evaluated by librarians... is meant to be used by librarians and non-librarians as a reliable and efficient guide to described and evaluated Internet resources." To quickly find sites on educational topics, choose the "Education" link for a list of general and specific education resources.

Sci-Math World
  
This site contains sections on the Selection of Search Tools: Directories and Portals, the Invisible Web, and Some Science and Math Search Engines leading users to outstanding directories, databases, and selective sites on education. It also includes specific interactive sites on various sciences and mathematics for use by K-12 through higher education students, teachers and librarians.
