 Meeting called to order 7:06pm

Cindy Chierici explained that coaches are invited to attend the Mustang Meetings and give an overview about their team and program for that season.  She then welcomed Jennifer Mulvaney the Varsity/JV Field Hockey Coach.

Coach Mulvaney  Explained that there are three levels of Field Hockey.  The Freshman Field Hockey Coach is Michele Jones.  Coach Mulvaney is the Head Coach for JV and Varsity, she is assisted by Coach Erin Sullivan.  Coach Mulvaney went on to explain that their season starts in Mid August.  Her teams have qualified for the state tournaments 7 out of 11 years.  The field hockey players also attend summer camps and various skill camps in the off- season.  In addition to field hockey Coach Mulvaney is the Varsity Girls Lacrosse Coach.  Michele Jones is the JV Lacrosse Coach,  she is assisted by Amy Amevitia.  The Freshman Lacrosse Coach is Rebecca Lilinthal.  The Lacrosse Season begins the first Fri. of March and continues until the end of May.  The girls also compete in summer and winter leagues. This year was the first time that the Freshman team had to make cuts due to a large amount of girls attending the tryouts.

Please Make Note of the following correction:  In last month’s minutes it was mistakenly reported that Steve Kapsalakis was paid for  DVD’s made previously. Cindy Gajdos and Nancy Petrillo noted that this was incorrect.  Mr. Kapsalakis has not been paid  as yet and the bill amount is pending.

 Steve Naccara (Athletic Director):

·         Congratulated the JV Field Hockey team for beating Pequannock the previous night.  Our team outplayed the Pequannock team, which has been considered far superior in the past. They are having a tremendous season.

·         Boys Varsity Soccer shut out Millburn 3-0. They are in the lead for Conference Championship.  They are playing extremely well and everyone is very proud of them.

·         Discussed the State re-alignment and what a difficult and lengthy procedure this will be for all schools involved.  They originally had Montville playing against seven teams in Sussex Cty and two of the farthest towns in Morris County.  This would require lengthy bus rides to and from these games.  Mr. Naccara assured the other ADs that this was unacceptable.  They then moved Montville to another Division which caused a ripple effect throughout every division .  The State mandates that every school must have their rules and schedules prepared by 2009. He will be attending the next meeting with the other ADs on Oct. 28th to formulate a schedule by 9/09.

·         Mary Ann Martello asked what was the intention behind the realignment.  Mr. Naccara then tried to briefly explain the reason. It began with the Public vs. Private school issue which was narrowly defeated two yrs. ago. Because of this the state is now trying to address this issue by realigning all the schools in the Super Conf 4 and Northern Hills Conference.

NEW BUSINESS:

Denise Gauweiler Update on Turf the Valley:

·          Reported that the Kiwanis and Broncos were sponsoring a

·         walkathon and a 5K run to help benefit “Turf the Valley” on Oct. 25th..  Please encourage all kids to attend. You may contact Jim Sandham to sponsor an individual.

·         If $10,000 is raised, there is a private donor willing to match it.

Lori Todisco posed a question as to where we are with corp. sponsorships for

            TTV?

·      Denise explained that the Board of Education is delaying their ability to seek corp. sponsorships.   Bd of Ed is very restrictive with regard to the verbage in contracts which prohibits TTV from approaching large businesses.

·      Suggested that maybe a member from the Bd of Ed should be invited to attend our meeting and give us an update.

·      Neighbor News Reporter is very interested in Montville Athletics.  Suggested that perhaps he could write an article about TTV’s cause.  AD suggested getting him in touch with MD.

·      Signage is still pending. TTV is still awaiting something in writing that will enable them  to sell signage.

·      Broncos will be having a Beefsteak to benefit TTV on Nov. 21st. It will be held at         the American Legion Hall in Lincoln Park.

Joanne Marchionda (Membership):

·         Reported that current membership is at 235. Has sent email reminders to those families that have not yet rejoined.

·         Ninety families that are still in the school have not renewed. Cindy Chierici will follow up with Nora Cannizzo re: status of  Hockey Players’ Membership.

·         Needs Committee Chairperson names so she can forward volunteer lists to each of them.
